Cast & Crew Member
James Chatmon Jr. is a multimedia storyteller with a focus on narratives rooted in the Deep South. As the creator of The More Defined Network, he produces three different styles of video and audio interviews with his podcast (The More Defined Podcast), More Defined Music, and More Defined Film. His videography is centered around creatives in Mississippi, ranging from art exhibits, stage performances, creative club/organization event captures, and more. His short films are captured with the intent of highlighting everyday facets of Mississippi life. James looks to produce documentaries and docuseries that share untold stories and further educate individuals on the many career paths that one can take. The audiences that James seeks with his work are anyone who falls under the BIPOC umbrella. His work helps represent Mississippi as a state and Jackson, MS, with its surrounding cities, in a realistic but positive light to shift the common narratives that are shared about the state.
James finds purpose from his work on two fronts. The first is that it allows him to fulfill the part of him that needs to create and tell stories. The second front helps shift the negative depictions about Mississippi with narratives that give the true positive light that Mississippi beholds. James approaches his work from his engineering background, which allows his process orientation skillset to shine. After experiencing some of his work, one should have a proper context of the documentation of Mississippi stories and gain a sense of freedom to create more authentic work.
The More Defined Podcast is a show that allows individuals with any background to come and share their experiences and receive their flowers. The short films and documentary films that James directs and produces give an insight on the everyday people and also showcase those who have intimate connections with the communities that they serve. YouTube and social media content are creative expression outlets that James enjoys sharing with the world!
